click Brian Armstrong Brian Armstrong is retired but makes a significant contribution to the management and operation of Tennis New South Wales, as a volunteer. Brian is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia (FIEAust), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD) and a former Member of the Institute of Project Management (MAIPM). The Australia Bangladesh Business Council (ABBC) was initiated in April 2002 following a briefing on business and investment opportunities in Bangladesh, by Mr M Morshed Khan, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister. The first meeting of an interim committee was held on 22 April 2002 and was attended by Brian, the Council’s first President, Mizan Rahman Mazumder and Abu Chowdury. The objective of the convening committee was to provide a mechanism for facilitation of trade and investment, and exchange of business information between Australia and Bangladesh.

Brian was elected as Treasurer at this formation meeting, a position he occupied until 2005. The ABBC was incorporated on 15 March 2004. Brian prepared the constitution for this incorporated ABBC.

Brian was elected Secretary of the ABBC in 2005 and held this position until 2008 at which time he was elected Chairperson, a position he held until 2013.In 2007, Brian was instrumental in developing and preparing the first Strategic Business Plan for ABBC. This plan incorporated a vision: “To be recognized by the governments of both Australia and Bangladesh as a primary mechanism for facititation of trade and investment, and exchange of business information between the two countries.” He undertook a review of this plan and updated it accordingly on an annual basis.

Brian continues to provide advice to the Executive Committee of the ABBC as required.
